It's a Love, Love Relationship

A game that united the world for at least a year, PokemonGo, or what is now mostly referred to as PoGo for short, by those who still play. When it was first released on July 6th, 2016, it took over the globe. If interested in some more the history about the game and learn some behind the screen knowledge, check out this history of PoGo. Anyone and everyone could be seen playing and walking around trying to catch all the Pokémon. I can remember seeing more people out and about playing the game. When it first came out, there were so many people playing there would often be glitches and I would have to delete the game and redownload it to keep playing. Thankfully none of my information or Pokémon were lost since I had to sign in with a Google account. I can remember having conversations with random people on the street or in the mall if I saw them playing the game. One such person said because of the game he walked significantly more than he had in years and had lost 25 pounds so far because of it. It was a truly wonderful time when the game first came out. It has since fizzled, but there are those, like me and my husband that have continued playing since day 1.

How the game affects me...
In my first blog post talking about my relationship with technology, I spoke about PoGo and how I got a new phone because an update they did made my iPhone 6s not compatible anymore. It is almost like the game has me in a choke hold that I cannot seem to get out of. I need to catch them all. Since the game has now been out for almost a decade, some major updates have happened the big one being new Pokémon get released every so often, so it keeps everyone playing, to catch them all. It does also tend to drain the phones battery fairly quickly. Those would probably be considered the negatives of the game.

The positives out way any sort of 'negatives' one could say about the game. It is something my husband and I have in common and play together often. We walk the neighbor with our tiny human, catch the Pokémon, and battle some gyms. It is a healthy competition between us, of who has the most seen/caught and what level we each are. It probably does not help that we are on two different teams, I like to take out the gyms he is at so I can get more experience and coins. One aspect of the game is trading gifts with other players, as long as I have their PoGo name, I am able to trade them a gift and they could get a variety of things from it. The amazing thing is that I have PoGO friends from all across the world. I have some from Thailand, Netherlands, and Australia to name a few. There is unfortunately no way to talk to those people in the game, but we are able to help each other in battles so that we can get the elusive legendary Pokémon, that require many players or a few that are really high levels. Also like I said above playing this game is a reason to get out of the house and exercise. It gets me out into the sunlight, which generally most of the time I loathe.

Shall I continue?
There is so much more I can say about the game and all the reasons why others should play. Clearly this is a game/app I am going to continue playing. Until Niantic (creators of the game) stops coming up with updates and no longer release more Pokémon to catch, I shall always feel the need to catch them all. If I enticed you at all with my words about PokemonGo I encourage you to watch this video:

While it is dated, all of the information still holds true if wanting to jump in and play. It was also one of the shorter videos out there that gave more than just the basics of the game. With all that being said go out there and start catching them all!!!

How do I spend my time?

How does one spend their time on the internet? Is it for personal or professional use? I had to map my internet and app usage. I was surprised by some of the results, but there were some results that I was not at all surprised about. While looking through my phone for the information I was shocked at how much time I just spent on my phone in general throughout the day. According to my phone I spend around five to six hours a day on it. Is that time being spent productivly or is it mindless scrolling through the virus apps that I have?  By the numbers I was able to find some interesting numbers on cell phone usage by millennials, which is what I would fall into. Millennials spend an average of 5.7 hours a day on their phones. It turns out, that I am a typical millennial in that regard with my five to six hours a day. Millennials use their phones more than any other generation. For more numbers and statistics about phone usage for millennials follow this link  Phones . Pe...

Integrating Technology

Given the choice between five different models of technology integration: SAMR, TPack, Technology Integration Matrix, Triple E Framework, and Teaching Innovation Progression chart, I decided to do a deeper dive into Technology Integration Matrix or TIM for short. The main reason I chose TIM over the others was because in its simplest form it is designed to evaluate a lesson, as opposed to rating a teacher or judging a task. Whereas the other models, just looked at tasks and not the overall lesson plan. There is so much that can be done and changed at the lesson plan level instead of based on a task. This model of TIM is in its third version and the program is based out of Florida. For more information about the history of TIM follow this link  History .  The Goods of TIM This model sets the stage for how to use technology at the start of a lesson and throughout as opposed to the after affects like some of the other models. TIM also gives massive amounts of lesson plans, for al...

A Bit About Me

I was asked the question, "What is your current role?" Well, there is a lot I could answer that question with. I am a mom , wife, friend, sister, aunt, daughter, retail store manager, student, library board member , and a gestational surrogate just to name a few.   My amazing tiny human, who will be six at the end of June, has special needs. He has a genetic condition, that causes occasional seizures, which has caused his developmental delay. He is semi-verbal, but that does not stop him from letting his needs and wants to be known. I can say with absolute certainty, being his mom has been the greatest thing in my life and he has taught me so very much. For more information about being a special needs parent I encourage you to read Forever Boy by Kate Swenson or watch some of her vlogs on YouTube,  Finding Cooper's Voice . Following Kate's journey has helped me so much with my own. In December of 2022, I was appointed to my local library's trustee board. 2023 wa...
